Jen Menard Photography

In this project, I developed a typographic logo for a client’s photography business. Beginning with hand painted letters, I created this clean, simple mark. Using proper vector techniques, such as bezier curves, I was able to create type with smooth, consistent lines.

Jen is a whimsical and full of joy, so it only made sense that her brand followed along to compliment her personality. I used simple flouishes on the ends of my words and a unique capital M to make her logo feel distinct. For a typeface, I went with a smooth, rounded option that didn’t compete against the main type.

A Hands on Approach

I always start on lettered logos with a paper and pencil. This gives me control and exploration that just isn’t possible in the computer. Sometimes sharpies and tracing paper are the best tools for the job.

The Finished Logo

After working out my concepts on paper, I brought everything into the computer. From there I digitized the logo for client use by implimenting a special technique called bezier curves that allows me to create smooth, fluid lines that are easy on the eyes. I brought in a typeface in place of my hand-drawn letters and the logo was ready to ship!
